  • Atlantic Wallpaper Center -- from 1974 to at least 1976 -- on Dogwood Road in Gwynn Oak/Woodlawn
  • Avalon Iron and Nail Works -- 1822 to 1868 -- on the Patapsco River at Avalon, a former village (the site of which is now part of Patapsco Valley State Park) near Catonsville. This factory produced iron rails for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, and also was a major maker of nails (along with rails). The factory and surrounding Avalon village were destroyed in an 1868 Patapsco River flood.
  • Avalon Water Works -- 1906 into the 1920s -- This company supplied piped, running water to buildings in Catonsville, Ellicott City and Ilchester, from a spring located at the former Avalon village site about 3 miles southwest of downtown Catonsville.

  • The Henry Animal Hospital -- 1950s to 1970s -- owned by veterinarian John F. Henry -- on Baltimore National Pike in Catonsville

  • Luskin's -- 1948 to 1996 -- Chain of consumer electronics stores. Many stores, including in Gwynn Oak/Woodlawn, in Pikesville, and in Towson (overlooking the Baltimore Beltway on Cromwell Bridge Road). Slogan: "The cheapest guy in town!"
  • Malcolm's -- "bath and closet boutique" -- from at least 1968 to at least 1974 -- In Westview Mall in Catonsville and on Reisterstown Road in Pikesville
  • Mars -- supermarket chain based in Dundalk, Maryland -- 1943 to 2016. Several locations including in Dundalk and on Belair Road in Nottingham.
  • McCrory's  -- 1920s-2002; chain of 5-and-10 stores.
  • Merry-Go-Round -- 1968 to 1996 -- Chain of mostly boutique clothing stores for teens and young adults; a few big warehouse-type stores as well. Based near Baltimore and had 536 stores in the U.S at the time of bankruptcy in 1996.
  • The News American -- 1964 to 27 May 1986; Baltimore newspaper;  formed by a merger of the Baltimore News-Post with the Baltimore American in 1964; the Baltimore News-Post had been formed in 1936 though the merger of the Baltimore News and the Baltimore Post; the Baltimore News had begun in 1873 as the Evening News, and the Baltimore Post had begun in 1922 as the Baltimore Daily Post; the Baltimore American began in 1793 as the Maryland Journal and the Baltimore Advertiser
  • Meushaw's -- restaurant near Security Boulevard in Woodlawn, owned by Skip and Tutti Meushaw. Began in 1945 in Catonsville; moved to Woodlawn location about 1976.

  • Moran Motor Sales -- auto dealership -- 1970s to 1990s -- on Wilkens Avenue in Baltimore. Later renamed Major Motor Sales.
  • Morrell's -- from at least 1959 into the 1990s -- infants' and children's clothes -- in Westview Shopping Center/Westview Mall in Catonsville
  • Murphy's (G.C. Murphy Co.) -- 1940s to 1990s -- variety store; discount department store. There was a location in Westview Shopping Center/Westview Mall (1957 to 1990s)
  • Murphy's Mart -- Discount department store, larger than an ordinary Murphy's store -- 1960s to 1960s -- in Perring Plaza and in Timonium Shopping Center, among others
  • Music Man Oldies -- 1980s to 2000s (decade) -- Bought and sold old phonograph records and CDs, especially old hit songs and hit albums. On Ingleside Avenue south of Baltimore National Pike in Catonsville.
  • Music World (also Stringer Music World) -- From at least 1968 to at least 1976 -- Sold musical instruments, phonograph records, prerecorded tapes, sheet music. In Westview Mall in Catonsville and also on York Road in Lutherville, Reisterstown Road Plaza, and Patterson Village Shopping Center.
  • National Hardware Super Mart (also: National Hardware Mart)  -- from at least 1956 to at least 1963 -- in Ingleside Shopping Center in Catonsville.
  • NationsBank -- 1994 to 1999 -- many branches, formerly Maryland National Bank
  • Pace Membership Warehouse -- 1983 to 1989 -- membership warehouse store on Woodlawn Drive in Woodlawn/Gwynn Oak, part of a national chain -- some Pace stores were rebranded as Sam's Club while others closed in 1989
  • Pantry Pride -- From  1970 into the 1980s -- chain of grocery stores, formerly Food Fair -- one was in Westview Mall in Catonsville
  • Pappy's -- 1970 to 1980s; Baltimore-based chain of restaurants, specializing in pizza and beer.  Also sold "Steamship Roast Beef" sandwiches and French fries.  One location was on Baltimore National Pike in the parking lot of Ingleside Shopping Center.  Had a fireplace, and a room downstairs where birthday parties for kids were held.
